Waleska Water Authority began construction of its water lines in 1963 under the direction of former Mayor Jack H. Smith and the Waleska City Council.
Today the Waleska Water Authority governs over 230 miles of water line and water supply to approximately 1600 households in Cherokee County. The City of Waleska purchases 100% of its water supply from Cherokee County Water Authority and the City of Canton. Waleska Water Authority maintains three water tanks located within the water system. The largest of these is the Hickory Log Tank off of Lower Burris Road and stores up to 500,000 gallons of water. The Byrd Mountain Tank located on Byrd Mountain Lane off of Lower Burris Road stores up to 300,000 gallons of water. The Silver Creek Tank located in Silver Creek Subdivision off of Pleasant Union Church Road close to the Pickens County line stores up to 200,000 gallons of water. The water system pulls a smaller water supply from Cherokee County Tank located on Land Road and Lower Bethany Road which is supplied by Cherokee County Water Authority. The water system operates and maintains three pump stations one for each of its water tanks.
Townsend Pipeline is the Water Authority’s primary maintenance contractor and has been for over 30 years.
Waleska Water Authority’s focus is for the needs of its citizens and community and strives to continue with its focus on future water system improvements as the greater needs arise.
